Construction work has started on Ivato International Airport and Fascene Airport in Madagascar.
A new 17 550sqm international terminal will be built at Ivato International Airport in Antananarivo, and will initially be able to handle 1.5 million passengers a year. The existing terminal will be renovated to handle the increasing amount of domestic travel, and the runway will be strengthened and resurfaced.
The runway and terminal building at Fascene Airport in Nosy Bé will be refurbished to handle an increase in passengers.
Mott MacDonald Project Director, Adria Canals-Macia, said: “This concession is a major opportunity for the Malagasy government to foster economic growth in the country, particularly by supporting a growing tourism industry.”
Work at both airports is expected to be completed in 2020.
