Low-cost carrier Jambojet launched flights between Mombasa and Zanzibar on July 1.
The flights operate on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, using an 82-seat De Havilland Dash 8-400 aircraft.
The flights were initially announced at the East African Regional Tourism Expo in Nairobi last November.
“Mombasa plays a significant role in our network, contributing 33% to our revenues and passenger numbers. Venturing into Zanzibar presents exciting opportunities for both nations and we are delighted to play a fundamental role in the development and growth of this market,” said Jambojet Chairperson, Vincent Rague.
The launch is in line with the East African Community's aim of marketing the economic bloc's seven partner states as a single tourist destination. The East African Tourism Marketing Strategy aims to position the region as a leading sustainable tourism destination, with the objective of developing competitive multi-destination products and branding as a single tourism destination.
“Aligned with this strategy is our decision to expand to Tanzania which is also rooted in the evolving dynamics of travel in East Africa, to increase exports and growing tourism statistics between Kenya and Tanzania and emphasising the growing connection between the two countries,” said Rague.
