Desert Express, a luxury train in Namibia, was involved in a collision with a trailer transporting gas cylinders on Monday, September 14, approximately 14km from Okahandja. Desert Express Head Office confirmed that the train was operational despite the collision.
The train collided with a trailer left behind by a truck that was transporting gas cylinders. According to an eyewitness, Heidi Dednam, Founder of GAVA Explorations Safari Company, the truck drove over the railway line, leaving behind its trailer, which was not properly connected to the truck.
“As the driver crossed the railway line, the trailer unhooked. The train then hit the trailer and we just saw gas bottles flying,” said Dednam.
None of the gas cylinders had exploded on impact and no injuries or fatalities had been reported, added Dednam.
