Cape Town’s local council has given approval for the City’s Events Department to enter into a new agreement to sponsor the Investec SA Women’s Open for the next three years.
The Council approval will see the City provide support for the country’s premier women’s professional event for the 2023/24, 2024/25, and 2025/26 financial years.
The new agreement with the Women’s Professional Golf Association (WPGA) will come into effect ahead of the 2024 Investec SA Women’s Open, which will take place at the Erinvale Golf Estate in Somerset West from April 25-18.
This will be the seventh straight year that Cape Town will host the country’s oldest and most prestigious professional women's golf tournament.
“The event’s move to Cape Town in 2018 birthed a really successful partnership between the City of Cape Town, the WPGA and the Sunshine Ladies Tour. Year on year, we have seen an increase, not only in the level of competition, but also in the number of people who travel to Cape Town for this tournament,” said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, JP Smith.
“We have been encouraged by how the event has contributed to promoting the Mother City as a sports tourism destination and the tournament’s focus on developing the next generation of female golfers,” Smith added.
Some of the Investec SA Women’s Open highlights over the last seven years include:
- Largest prize money (over R6 million/€313 880) for any professional women’s golf tournament in South Africa.
