After much speculation about a cabinet reshuffle since President Cyril Ramaposa took office earlier this month, tonight a new cabinet has been announced.
Appoints for the tourism industry to take note of include the return of Derek Hanekom to the post of Minister of Tourism, the appointment of Nhlanhla Nene as Minister of Finance, Pravin Gordhan as Minister of State Owned Enterprises, and David Mabuza as the Deputy President.
Much to the dismay of many in the industry, Malusi Gigaba will return to the post of the Minister of Home Affairs. His actions during his last stint earning him the name of the ‘Tourism Terminator’.
After the announcement there was general good feeling around the return of Derek Hanekom to the tourism post.
