Jenman African Safaris has, with immediate effect, removed the visit to the orphanage on its East African Migration Discover, and Tanzania Wildlife and Cultural Explorer tours.
The operator made this decision after discussions, research and debates on how the children of the communities being travelled to were benefiting sustainably from interactions planned on the itineraries.
“A core part of Jenman African Safaris’ business beliefs is responsible tourism, and part of this is a mission to positively and beneficially engage with the local communities of the areas we travel to,” said the operator.
Jenman will instead be supporting the Kazuri Bead Project – a group of over 300 single mothers who make and hand-paint a range of original ceramic beads, designed to convey the colours of Africa.
“Kazuri means ‘small and beautiful’ in Swahili and its wonderful how something so small can make such a big difference in these women’s lives,” concluded the operator.
