A unique way to experience South Africa’s Garden Route is a four-day guided sports car tour package.
Auto GT Tours offers a tour along the Western Cape’s south coast and Garden Route in a sports car, where travellers can visit the southernmost tip of Africa, enjoy local cuisine at various restaurants along the way, and overnight in some of SA’s coolest hotels or guesthouses.
The itinerary
Day 1: Arrive in Cape Town, with optional afternoon/evening tours of the V&A Waterfront, Table Mountain, or other historical sites and popular places of interest. Guests can stay at the Meerendal Wine Estate or Durbanville.
Day 2: Follow the R44 coastal route at the foot of the Kogelberg Mountains, passing through Betty’s Bay, to the whale-watching destination of Hermanus, followed by a drive through Gansbaai to Struisbaai. Reach Agulhas and visit southernmost tip of Africa, before heading back north to Bredasdorp to overnight at Firlane Guest House.
Day 3: Head inland, via Swellendam, to Mossel Bay, home of the Bartolomeu Dias Museum and Post Office Tree. Then journey to Knysna through George (home of the transportation museum), Wilderness and Sedgefield. Take a cruise on the Knysna Lagoon or enjoy the town’s sights, then overnight at The Lofts Boutique Hotel on Thesen Island.
Day 4: Going to Plettenberg Bay for a visit to the Beacon Isle area, drivers can visit the wildlife sanctuaries of Monkeyland and Birds of Eden; then go across to Bloukrans River Bridge which is home to the world’s highest aerial bungee jump. From there, to the Tsitsikamma area, to visit Storms River Village and the nearby Big Tree. A final visit to Jeffrey’s bay, before heading to Port Elizabeth for end-of-tour drinks, and an overnight stay at Beach Hotel.
Optional day tours can be added to either end of the main tour.
