El Kalama Lodge in Laikipia, Kenya, has completed construction of two new river cottages.
The luxury cottages were designed to bring natural light into the rooms through large windows, and high ceilings that add additional space. Spacious en-suite bathrooms have an outdoor bathtub made from river stones, for bathing beneath the stars.
The cottages are situated away from the main lodge, and have their own small private dining room and bar. A fireplace in the dining room was made from a fallen fever tree, and large verandas look out over a salt lick that attracts wildlife. A swimming pool is also available.
“We are so pleased that our new river cottages are ready for our guests to enjoy,” says owner Sophie Grant. “A brand new addition to our lovely family and group-friendly lodge, they are the result of much design, planning and dreaming.”
El Karama Lodge is an eco-friendly lodge, located in the Laikipia eco-system on 14 000 acres of private land. The aim of the El Karama team is to preserve the unique habitat through eco tourism, creating employment, income generation and opportunities for livelihood creation in the area. “Our lodge continues to be an organic, authentic labour of love that blends environmental awareness and a passion for sharing the very best of what Laikipia has to offer. We believe that responsible tourism contributes to the wider health of this incredible region, and look forward to sharing our wonderful little lodge with guests from all over the country and elsewhere. We hope that these gorgeous new cottages will bring that extra level of privacy and comfort to couples and small families seeking to reconnect with the natural world,” says Grant.
