The apex Southern African Association for the Conference Industry (SAACI) has joined the Joint Meetings Industry Council (JMIC) – a global organisation that represents the combined interests of major international industry associations in the meetings and events sector.
JMIC membership gives SAACI and its members access to an extensive international network of industry leaders and stakeholders.
“It allows our members to tap into a global network of industry leaders, access valuable insights and participate in initiatives that will enhance the meetings and events sector in southern Africa and across the continent while providing more support and business opportunities,” said SAACI Chairperson Jaques Fouche.
The membership also gives SAACI a broader platform to advocate for the pivotal role that business events play in economic growth, job creation and regional development across southern Africa.
“Collaboration between African and international stakeholders ensures that South Africa and the broader African region remain competitive and at the forefront of global eventing,” said Fouche.
JMIC President James Rees welcomed SAACI’s membership, noting: “The addition not only bolsters our representation in one of the most dynamic regions in the world but also reaffirms JMIC’s mission to advocate for the role of business events in driving global economic, social and cultural development. Together, we are stronger and more unified in promoting the essential contributions of our industry on the global stage.”
JMIC was established in 1978 to provide a communications link between international associations engaged in the meetings industry and a means of collectively reviewing industry conditions and strategies.
JMIC is committed to developing a more aggressive industry advocacy programme to support its members in their efforts to raise overall industry awareness and appreciation while creating a platform for enhanced industry interactions and communication. The council comprises leading industry associations around the world.
Founded in 1987, SAACI spearheads thought leadership and advocacy efforts in improving the standards of conferencing facilities, meeting venues and allied services within southern Africa.
