SANParks will, on September 26, officially reveal Vision 2040 across South Africa, marking a milestone for SANParks and the future of conservation in the country.
Vision 2040 is about re-imagining collaborative, inclusive, co-created national protected areas of the future. The SANParks-driven effort gives expression to the White Paper on Conservation and sustainable use of South Africa’s biodiversity. It is advocating Mega Living Landscapes, which are large, interconnected areas of land that encompass protected areas, private and communal land and different compatible land uses.
The SANParks Vision 2040 plan will show how Mega Living Landscapes can re-imagine the management and conservation of biodiversity on a much greater scale and in a more inclusive manner.
SANParks collected insight from a wide range of stakeholders, including community members, traditional leaders and healers, youth, specialists, individuals, and organisations involved in conservation and tourism, and heritage specialists through in-person engagements.
For SANParks, Vision 2040 is a vision for the future of conservation in South Africa. Watch the video for more insights into what the entity envisions.
