It may have taken a little longer than originally hoped but the determined Skywise team have secured an Air Service Licence (ASL) and are now making final arrangements before they launch its flights between Cape Town and Johannesburg.
“With a valid ASL, we are now able to finalise our application to the Civil Aviation Authority for our Air Operators Certificate,” said Rodney James, Skywise CEO. He explains that the AOC is the final regulatory requirement before the airline can start selling tickets and operating.
Skywise has yet to set a target launch date but James said the carrier’s strategic and implementation plans are being updated. Skywise’s website is set to go live one month prior to the LCC’s inaugural flight.
According to James, the airline will begin marketing itself to the public the same day the website goes live as well as providing the travel industry with the relevant information to educate them about the new carrier.
With regard to launch fares, James says: “We won’t have any idea of fares until about a week before the website goes live, however there is no doubting the fact that our fares will bring the airline industry back in line and stimulate the domestic air travel market.”
