TABLE Mountain National Park (TMNP) has stepped up its patrols in the Silvermine dam area after four tourists and a guide were mugged there at knifepoint on Wednesday afternoon.
One tourist was stabbed and received hospital treatment. The suspects fled on foot.
TMNP spokesperson, Phumeza Mgxashe, said the guide accompanying the group had managed to get away and had called for help. A TMNP ranger had activated the nearby Kirstenhof SAPS, TMNP visitor safety rangers and the TMNP dog unit. Together they had combed the area until park closure at 18h00.
She said this was the first mugging at Silvermine dam, a popular picnic and walking spot on the South Peninsula.
