The Welgevonden Game Reserve in Limpopo has reopened after a month-long closure. The reserve had been closed since March 1 due to record rainfall that caused extensive damage to access roads.
Welgevonden COO Neil Davison said progress in road repairs allowed for the reopening of the reserve on April 1.
“We are excited to be reopening to visitors – all thanks to our team who has been working tirelessly to ensure our roads are safe and passable as they continue to dry out. This has been a challenging time for everyone on the reserve but the lodges are well prepared for the upcoming holidays.”
Davison said the reserve could be accessed via the main gate while further repairs are conducted on roads servicing other access gates.
“The provincial roads servicing the reserve’s West and South gates remain compromised and are accessible only in four-wheel drive or high-clearance vehicles. The reserve’s East gate access road will remain closed while repairs are undertaken.”
