The Zambian Government says there is need for greater co-operation between Zambia and Zimbabwe if the two countries are to become destinations of choice globally and become a regional hub for tourism.
Home Affairs Minister, Steven Kampyongo, said the two countries needed to move from competition to co-operation. He said there were common challenges that both countries faced that can be solved only when the countries became allies and not competitors.
“The realisation of our vision requires taking into account the bigger picture rather than focusing on the narrow view. We have to move from profit maximisation to wealth creation and, as government, we call upon all stakeholders to focus on this to create more opportunities,” said Minister Kampyongo.
He urged the two countries to remain committed to easing movement of tourists across the borders as it also helped to reduce transit times and promote tourist arrivals.
“The people who visit Zambia also visit Zimbabwe and thus by formalising a univisa system we are promoting the interests of both countries and promoting competitiveness for sustainable socio and economic development.” The Zimbabwe and Zambia univisa was formally relaunched last month.
