The e-visa application facility was launched in October.
Applicants can obtain their e-visa approval letter electronically after submitting required information and payment, which is made in cash or credit/debit card (MasterCard or Visa) at the point of entry. Immigration officers will verify the e-visa via the online system, however travellers are advised to download and keep a hard copy of the e-visa approval letter.
A single-entry visa will cost US$50, a double/multiple-entry visa will cost US$80, a transit visa will cost US$50 and a day-trip visa will cost US$20.
Foreign travellers can determine whether or not they need a visa to enter Zambia by clicking “apply” and selecting their country of origin.
Zambia’s Department of Immigration will look into allowing visitors to apply online for the KASA UniVisa with Zimbabwe. “The e-visa pilot project will end in December and after this period, recommendations will be made on whether or not to put the UniVisa online,” said the Public Relations Office for the Zambia Department of Immigration.
Julien Perreard, GM of Southern Africa Travel, a tour operator with branches in Australia, US, UK and Cape Town, said: “As this [e-visa] is fairly new, we are only now starting to advise clients that they should apply online to save time on arrival. Hopefully, the KASA UniVisa will also be available online.”
Anouk Zijlma, a safari consultant for African Portfolio, a safari specialist company based in Connecticut, said she was still encouraging her clients to get a visa on arrival. “We have the information for our clients but many of them like to cross over to Zimbabwe to see the Falls, especially at this time of year, and as the UniVisa is the same price, we are still encouraging them to get that as they arrive.”
The e-visa application facility be accessed through the web portal.
