Kivu Safari Lodge has opened at Gishyita on Lake Kivu’s Byerwa peninsula in Rwanda.
Owner, Paul Muvunyi, says the $1.5 million lodge offers 20 rooms, a restaurant, bar and swimming pool, among other amenities.
“I decided to invest in the lake’s peninsula as it was unexploited, despite its great potential. Tourists visit here for the beautiful scenery,” he says. “The peninsula and the shores of the lake are among the beautiful sights attracting international tourists to Karongi District.”
Karongi Mayor, Francois Ndayisaba, says the new lodge will boost tourism in the district and applauded Muvunyi for his investment. Ndayisaba says locals will benefit from job opportunities while at the same time tourism business will boost the district’s economy.
The opening of Kivu Safari Lodge brings the number of hotel establishments in Karongi District to nine.
The mayor urged tourism players to invest in Karongi as it has the potential to attract more tourists.
