Beachgoers in the Western Cape are invited to join De Hoop Collection, Morukuru Beach Lodge and CapeNature at the De Hoop Nature Reserve for a beach clean-up weekend from May 27-29. Black bags and gloves will be provided, and the area to be covered is from Koppie Alleen to Skipskop.
Accommodation for the weekend is offered at a 50% discount, according to William Stephens, Owner of De Hoop Collection, which has four- to six-bed cottages at R1 450pp (€87), and suites for up to two guests at R3 400pp (€205).
Morukuru Beach Lodge will offer a suite for up to two guests at R2 900pp (€175). There are five suites available.
To qualify for the special rate, guests must commit to the clean-up on the Friday from 16h00, and full-day clean-up on the Saturday. Guests’ own transport must be used to and from Koppie Alleen.
“The De Hoop Nature Reserve is one of the most beautiful and unique places in the world and it’s a privilege to be situated in this protected area. However, like anywhere in the world, sea debris and litter wash up on our shores. With beach clean-up weekends such as this one, we can make a difference to ensure our beaches remain as pristine as possible,” says Trevor van Laun, GM of Morukuru Beach Lodge.
The lodge will provide a packed lunch, and De Hoop Collection will provide a boma dinner at 18h00 for guests on May 28. Should guests participate in the clean-up the following day, Morukuru Beach Lodge will provide a packed lunch for R150 (€9) per person. Transport will be provided for Morukuru Beach Lodge guests to and from De Hoop Collection for the boma dinner.
