The celebrations are to commemorate the 29th anniversary of South Africa’s democracy and 29 years of formal diplomatic relations between South Africa and Nigeria.
Over the past weekend, South Africa held a ‘tourism activation’ to promote and position South Africa as a preferred tourist destination to the West African country, as well as engagement between stakeholders in various public and private sectors.
There was also a ‘South African and Nigerian movie and comedy night’, with the aim of promoting social cohesion between the two countries through arts and culture in the visual arts by showcasing film productions such as documentaries and short-films by South African and Nigerian producers and film makers, as well as to display the creative arts through comedy.
The rest of the week will see a ‘South Africa-Nigeria Trade and Investment Roundtable’ take place, to explore and expand on opportunities for trade and investment, and to build a good and mutually beneficial relationship between the two countries’ business communities.
Besides Freedom Day celebrations on Thursday (April 27), SA will host a golf tournament to further strengthen relations.
