On Tuesday (November 5), Prince William participated in an early-morning nature walk on Cape Town’s Signal Hill with Australian conservationist Robert Irwin, focusing on the work of conservation rangers in Table Mountain National Park. Signal Hill, a coastal foothill in the national park, provided a scenic backdrop for the prince’s discussions with local rangers and park staff.
Accompanied by Park Manager Megan Taplin, Prince William met with rangers, park firefighters and members of a K9 unit to learn about their daily challenges and efforts to protect the park’s unique biodiversity. “We spoke about ranger wellness and the importance of supporting rangers and their families,” Taplin shared, highlighting the dangerous nature of their work.
Prince William later posted on Instagram: “Discussing the vital importance of biodiversity at beautiful Signal Hill, joining rangers and conservationists to learn about the incredible efforts to protect the Cape – a biodiversity hotspot home to rare and endangered species.”
This visit is part of Prince William’s trip to South Africa to promote his Earthshot Prize, which funds solutions to environmental issues. The awards ceremony will take place tonight (Wednesday, November 6) in Cape Town – the first time in Africa.
