Air Namibia plans to resume flights to both Johannesburg and Cape Town from Wednesday, October 28.
The Windhoek-Johannesburg direct route will operate on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. Currently, four flights a week are envisaged for the Windhoek-Cape Town route, two direct and two via Walvis Bay.
The Namibian President called this year for the cash-strapped airline to be liquidated – its financial problems are well known in Namibia. It has reportedly been paying out salaries at only 50% since September. Another financial challenge comes from Challengair, a Belgian charter operator that is looking to liquidate the airline – it is claiming NAD400m (R437m) it alleges it is owed by Air Namibia. The case was due to be heard in the Namibia High Court yesterday.
