Last week, Airbnb announced that it was rolling out updates to its app interface for all users, starting in December.
There will soon be an option to display the total price of a stay in countries that do not already have existing price display requirements. The total price will include all fees before taxes and come up in search results and on the map, filter, and listing page. Before booking confirmation, guests can still view a full price breakdown that shows Airbnb’s service fee, discounts, and taxes.
An update to the algorithm means Airbnb will prioritise the total price of a stay over the nightly price in the search rankings. This means that for similar listings in the same area, those with the highest quality and best total prices will rank higher in search results.
Starting early next year, hosts will get new pricing and discounting tools to help them understand the final price guests pay and how to set competitive prices. Hosts will also soon have an improved guest check-out system, where they are reminded to display check-out requests to guests before they book, and to keep them reasonable.
“Guests should not have to do unreasonable check-out tasks such as stripping the beds, doing the laundry, or vacuuming when leaving their Airbnb. But we think it’s reasonable to ask guests to turn off the lights, throw food in the trash, and lock the doors – just as they would when leaving their own home,” a statement from Airbnb explains.
Airbnb will continue to share more as the updates are implemented.
