Two A380s a day – that will be British Airways’ capacity on the Johannesburg route come June next year.
BA has confirmed to Tourism Update that, from June 2025, it will begin operating both of its double-daily Johannesburg services using an A380, increasing seat capacity on the route by around 30%.
The carrier currently operates one daily return B777-300ER flight (BA56 and BA57) and one daily A380 return flight (BA54 and BA55) on its Johannesburg-Heathrow route. From June 2, BA56 and BA57 will be operated by an A380.
The additional A380 flights will provide 215 more seats in each direction; 173 more economy seats, 15 more in premium economy, 21 more in business class and six more in first class than the B777.
