Winter allows visitors to get to know Cape Town from a different perspective. Cape Town Tourism suggests the following activities that won’t break the bank:
* The Southern Line is a train route that leaves from the newly improved Cape Town station and travels along the False Bay coastline at a bargain cost, while allowing travellers to hop on and off along the way.
* Advise your clients to avoid the queues and buy their tickets for the Table Mountain Cable Car online.
* Restaurants and bars will be cosy and buzzing – so visitors who want seats at their favourite restaurants should think about making their bookings well in advance.
* Many attractions will extend their hours because of the World Cup.
* Learn to surf or walk along the 3km catwalk from Muizenberg to Kalk Bay.
* Shop for trinkets along Kalk Bay Main Road, watch the fishing boats come in and
enjoy the best fish and chips at Kalky’s.
* Visit the penguins at Boulder’s Beach.
* Go horse riding on Noordhoek beach or stroll to the Kakapo shipwreck. Warm up with coffee or wine at the Noordhoek Farm Village.
* Visit Rhodes Memorial in Newlands for a view over the suburbs or take a walk in Newlands Forest.
* Take a walk or horse-ride in Tokai Forest.
* Tour the Constantia Wine Route.
* Visit any of the numerous craft markets and craft shops all over Cape Town, including Greenmarket Square, the Milnerton flea market and the trendy organic food market at the Biscuit Mill in Woodstock.
* Drive up Signal Hill or walk up Lion’s Head for a 360-degree view of the city.
* Cape Town CBD has a ‘museum meander walk’ and an abundance of religious venues.
* Window-shop at the V&A Waterfront or watch the buskers and street life.
* Relive the world’s first heart transplant at the Heart of Cape Town Museum at Groote Schuur Hospital.
* Visit Durbanville Nature Reserve or the Durbanville Wine Valley. View contemporary art at the Rust-en-Vrede Gallery.
* Stop at Sir Lowry’s Pass Lookout Point for 403m-high views of the False Bay coast. Encounter wildlife along trails suitable for young and old at Helderberg Nature Reserve.
* Build a snowman at Klondike Farm outside Ceres.
