In a statement on Sunday, President Cyril Ramaphosa stated that 35 South African ports of entry would be closed as a precautionary measure to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

“Of the 53 land ports, 35 will be shut down with effect from Monday, March 16,” said Ramaphosa.

Countries with affected border posts are Lesotho, eSwatini, Mozambique, Botswana and Namibia.

The following posts will be closed:

Namibia border

• Alexander Bay, Onseepkans, Rietfontein and Sendelingsdrfit.

Botswana border

• Bray, Derdepoort, Gemsbok, McCarthys Rest, Middelputs, Mokopong, Mokgobistad, Platjan, Pondrift, Stockpoort, Swartkopfontein, Tweerivieren and Zanzibar.

Mozambique border

• Pafuri, Giriyondo and Kosi Bay.

eSwatini border

• Bothashoop, Emahlatini, Josefsdal, Nerston, Onverwacht and Waverley.

Lesotho border

• Boesmansnek, Makhaleng Bridge, Mononstha Pass, Ongeluksnek, Pekabridge, Ramatsiliso, Sani Pass, Sephaphus Gate, Tellebridge.
