Jumbo Junction in northwest Botswana has reopened with a new look and has announced expansion plans. The camp borders the Okavango Delta and is 140km from the Mohembo border post into Namibia.
Jumbo Junction was leased by Nomad, an overland operator, until October last year, and now Greg and Sue Flaxman have been tasked to manage and revive it.
“We have refurbished the two chalets, Tao and Kubu, that were previously used for management accommodation into two well-equipped units right ‘on the doorstep’ of the Delta waters,” said Sue Flaxman.
The chalets are fully serviced and have an en-suite toilet and shower. Each offers fully catered accommodation for two guests.
Expansion plans include a new tented camp, which is expected to open next year. Five en-suite tents will each accommodate two guests and two daily activities a day are included in the rate. An entertainment area can be used by guests in the tented camp and the chalets.
“The camping accommodation will consist of four private self-drive campsites and a separate section with erected dome tents for overlanders. We are busy negotiating with two possible overlanding companies for next year's season. These two camping areas will be separate from our chalets and tented camp to ensure privacy for everyone,” said Flaxman.
