South Africa’s inbound tourist numbers decreased in September, registering a drop in month-to-month figures compared with August.
According to the latest figures from Statistics South Africa, overall, overseas arrivals decreased by 4.4% (from 165 705 in August to 158 407).
The drop is particularly evident in European arrivals, as numbers decreased from 93 602 in August, to 86 228 in September.
However, there was a slight increase in numbers from the US (from 29 300 in August to 30 096 in September).
September arrivals were at 79% of 2019 pre-pandemic levels, slightly decreasing from the 80% registered in August this year.
