TNPA commenced the process of calling for proposals for design, development, financing, construction, operation, maintenance and transfer of the proposed cruise terminal in July. This process is currently in an open tender process.
The new terminal will align with planned development around the Durban Point Waterfront and uShaka Marine World and will operate on a seasonal basis in line with the cruise liner schedules.
The terminal will be developed as a multipurpose facility to be utilised as a meetings, conference and exhibitions venue. The new terminal is expected to comprise retail and entertainment facilities, including bars and restaurants, a tourism kiosk and a curio/flea market section.
The proposed new facility plans to handle 5 000 to 6 000 passengers at a time and cover about 9 000 sqm.
TNPA declined to provide further details before the conclusion of the tender process.
