Franschhoek Pass, on the R45 between Franschhoek and Villiersdorp in the Western Cape, was reopened for traffic on September 6 by the Western Cape's Department of Transport and Public Works.
The pass was closed due to a rockfall on June 22. The Pass will be closed again for further remedial works should there be any indication that the road is unsafe.
Franschhoek Pass is one of the more scenic routes, with views of the surrounding valleys, gorges and mountains, particularly the drop down to the Franschhoek River from the summit.
