The construction of the Malindi-Sala Gate road project, which links Malindi with Tsavo East National Park, is expected to spur international tourism in Taita-Taveta and Kilifi counties.
Due to the existing poor road network, international visitors have been taking two tothree hours to get to Tsavo from Malindi but once the construction is complete, they can expect to reach the park in less than two hours, while enjoying game drive. The route is also shorter than the Malindi-Mombasa Highway.
Tourism Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala said the construction, which is 70% complete, would ease connectivity and attract international tourists to the Kenyan coast. “From Lamu, there will be a tarmac road to the national park, and from Malindi to Tsavo.”
