Zimbabwe-based tour operator, Silwane Tours and Safaris, plans to introduce horse-riding at Matobo National Park in southwest Zimbabwe.

Sikhawuliso Sibanda, Executive Director of Silwane Tours and Safaris, told Tourism Update that preparations were under way, and expected to be operating by April. Activities will be available for visitors seven years old and up, with guides leading the activities.

Matobo National Park is a Unesco World Heritage Site that comprises a unique landscape with balancing rocks. Visitors will be able to see the grave of famous British colonist and businessman Cecil John Rhodes on a granite hill, known to local inhabitants as Malindidzimu – a Kalanga word that translates to ‘the hill of benevolent spirits’. There are also San rock art sites including Nstwatungi, Silozwane, Inkane and Bambata caves and a White rhino shelter.

The largest concentrations of Black and White rhinos in Zimbabwe are found here, making it easy to spot one or more of this endangered species.
