Hilton Seychelles recently held an event to raise awareness of the importance of protecting the environment in the Indian Ocean archipelago and has introduced initiatives to create long-term sustainability of tourism in Seychelles.
They form part of Hilton’s commitment to cut its environmental impact in half and double its investment in social impact by 2030.
Coral reef preservation
The hotel group has created coral nurseries at its Hilton Northolme Resort and Spa and DoubleTree by Hilton Allamanda to help the reef recover from human impact and natural disasters, including the 2004 tsunami.
Sustainable sourcing
The Hilton Seychelles cluster has launched its own soap recycling initiative. The Hilton Seychelles Labriz Resort & Spa and Hilton Northolme grow fruit and vegetables on their properties; and all food waste at the hotels goes through a grinding process that produces fertilizer to be used in the gardens and native plant nursery.
Plastic reduction and water use
To combat issues around fresh water, the Hilton Labriz installed its own bottling plant on Silhouette Island. Water is filtered and placed in reusable glass bottles in an effort to reduce reliance on single-use plastic.
Preservation of Seychelles heritage
Hilton restored the original plantation house built by the Dauban family in 1860 and opened it to the public as a museum telling the story of the archipelago.
