Cape Town Tourism received increased funding as it entered the second year of its three-year partnership with the City Council as the Mother City’s official Destination Marketing Agency from July 1, James Vos, Mayoral Committee Member for Economic Growth, told Tourism Update.
He said he had tabled a proposal to increase the funding provision to Cape Town Tourism, which had been successfully approved by the council.
Initially, a fixed amount per annum of R52 million (€2.5m) has been approved for the three-year agreement with no provision for any inflationary increases during the three-year duration.
The council has approved that the current grant amounts for Cape Town Tourism for 2023/24 and 2024/25 should be increased by R2.6 million (€127 670) each financial year.
“My decision was based on my confidence in this organisation to support the City’s delivery of the Tourism Development Framework and our purposeful pursuit to boost volumes and values benefiting the visitor economy.
“We proudly work with and fund Cape Town Tourism to deliver on some of my biggest priorities for tourism growth, namely destination marketing, visitor information services, and community tourism product development to support local businesses,” said Vos.
