Members of the tourism industry have mostly voiced satisfaction at the quality of Africa’s Travel Indaba 2023, with 58% of respondents to our latest poll saying the show had lived up to their expectations. Of the remaining voters, 21% said the show hadn’t lived up to expectations, while 21% were unsure.
The scope of the event reached pre-pandemic levels this year, with more than 1 000 buyers, 8 600 delegates and 21 000 meetings recorded.
How can tourism best professionalise?
This week, South Africa’s Department of Tourism will host a series of online engagements with tourism stakeholders, as part of the process of developing a Tourism Sector Professionalisation Strategy. The Department has said that this engagement will “present an opportunity for relevant stakeholders to provide input on key issues relating to sector service standards, skills development and training, professional conduct, occupational development, recruitment abilities, and experience expectations”.
