Imire Rhino and Wildlife Conservation recently shared images on its Facebook page of Shinga, a Belgian Malinois, training to be an anti-poaching dog.
Imire is a conservancy in the the Mashonaland East District of Zimbabwe, just 90 minutes from Harare. It employs members from the local community to form part of an anti-poaching team, who patrol both proactively and reactively to reduce the amount of poaching in the area.
Shinga arrived at Imire in February and, according to the post, she is making good progress.
"She's matured, she's settled, she's stable and, most importantly, she is reliable. Her handlers can't believe the level and the standard she is operating at, and her 100% commitment to her work is phenomenal. Shinga and her handlers are completely happy. She is huge asset to the conservancy,” said Imire Conservancy Director, Reilly Travers.
