Lanseria International Airport will upgrade and extend its terminal building, as well as build a new control tower and fire station, as it looks to develop its status in sub-Saharan Africa.
Gavin Sayce, Lanseria Airport Manager, revealed to Tourism Update that the phased approach to the airport’s upgrade will first see the existing terminal building upgraded and extended, in order to accommodate larger aircraft to the international part of the terminal. “Then, as the market grows, we will start [developing] the second terminal building,” he said. A multi-story parkade is also in the works.
A new control tower and new fire station will also be built. “The idea is to open up the airport apron because the current tower and fire station sit in the middle of the apron,” Sayce explained.
“Our plan is to grow Lanseria as the regional airport servicing sub-Saharan Africa,” Sayce revealed. “The timing of the project is unknown at this point as it is driven by the state of the economy,” he said.
