Last Word, a collection of five-star intimate hotels and safari camps in South Africa, has recently added The Bush House in the Madikwe Game Reserve to its portfolio.
Situated on the border with Botswana close to the Kalahari Desert, Madikwe Game Reserve is the fifth-largest game reserve in South Africa.
The lodge will be renamed Last Word Madikwe Bush House. It had previously operated as a commercial lodge for 23 years.
With only five suites, Last Word Madikwe Bush House complements Last Word's intimate and exclusive approach to hospitality.
All Classic Suites are contained in the house just metres from the public areas and are appointed in traditional African decor.
All are en-suite and have separate showers and bathtubs. Each also has a private patio, air-conditioning, work desk and luxurious amenities, with room size averaging at 45sqm.
The malaria-free Madikwe Bush House offers activities such as bird watching, gym facilities, boma dinners, a swimming pool, photographic hides and twice-daily game drives to track the Big Five.
The lodge, originally a family homestead on the Wonderboom farm, was transformed into a retreat that offers a safari escape for families, photographers, birders, and groups.
Located on the western side of Madikwe, it is a four-hour drive from Johannesburg and can also be accessed by air from Johannesburg and Durban.
