In last week’s poll, 57% of respondents identified loadshedding as the issue that most urgently needed to be addressed by President Cyril Ramaphosa in his State of the Nation Address. The announcement of a Minister of Electricity in the Presidency, and the declaration of a National State of Disaster, were the most notable measures outlined by Ramphosa in dealing with energy insecurity. Tourism industry leaders want these interventions to result in tangible solutions.
Safety and security issues were also of concern to readers, with 24% of poll respondents selecting this as the most important area they wanted Ramaphosa to focus on. This was followed by visa red tape (6%), inadequate infrastructure (5%), limited airlift (5%) and lack of small business support (4%).
