The M2 freeway in Johannesburg, heading east towards OR Tambo International Airport, has been closed for repairs. The closure is expected to continue until the end of 2019. The road is closed between the Joe Slovo Drive exit and the Maritzburg exit at Kaserne Bridge.
Johannesburg Metro Police spokesperson Wayne Minnaar has recommended alternative routes to the airport including exiting the freeway before Joe Slovo Drive and, using arterial roads through Marshalltown and Jeppestown or Main Reef Road, rejoining the highway at Cleveland Road. Additionally, motorists can use Albertina Sisulu Road to travel through the CBD, connecting with the R24 after the Bruma area.
Travellers heading to the airport are encouraged to leave adequate driving time to compensate for the detour.
