Three hotels in Mombasa – Sarova Whitesands, Voyager Beach Resort and Travellers Beach Hotel – have unveiled renovation plans.
Sarova Whitesands Beach Resort GM, Raj Jadhav, said the hotel was spending $4.5 million this year to renovate rooms and conference rooms. The project will see 138 rooms refurbished and two conference rooms upgraded.
“The renovation of 48 rooms started early this month and we expect the work to be completed in June, while the upgrading of 36 more rooms will begin in July,” he said. The refurbishment of a further 54 more rooms will begin in September.
Heritage Hotels CEO, Mohamed Hersi, said 140 rooms and seven suites at Voyager Beach Resort were undergoing renovations this year. The work is expected to be completed before Easter. “Last year, we upgraded the public areas and this year we are giving our rooms a facelift to create an enabling environment to our guests.”
Travellers Beach Hotel Marketing Manager, Wafula Waswa, said between 2015 and last year, 252 hotel rooms had been renovated. He said the hotel aimed to refurbish 36 more rooms between now and 2018 as part of its modernisation programme, which covers a total of 288 rooms.
