A new book, The Illustrated Dictionary of Southern African Plant Names, by Hugh Clarke and Michael Charters, is the first of its kind. It was compiled over six years and provides a wealth of information for all plant lovers.
The book is aimed at gardeners, plant collectors, amateur and professional botanists, academics and people who want to know what generic plant names mean. There are nearly 5 000 entries. The 500 full-colour photographs are accompanied by explanations of how names relate to the plant; there are 900 short biographies and 500 portraits of people after whom plants are named; and explanations of the plants’ scientific names.
The book will be released this month. For sale enquires, contact Jacana Media on 011 628 3200.
