The Lagoon Beach Hotel, Conference Centre and Spa Cape Town welcomed Pieter Buitendag as General Manager earlier this month. 

Buitendag has worked in hospitality since 1994, completing in service training with the Protea Hotels group and working his way up the ranks over a long career managing properties such as the Protea Hotel Stellenbosch in Technopark, the Victoria Junction Hotel in Greenpoint, Cape Town, and the President Hotel in Sea Point, Cape Town.

After taking a sabbatical in 2015, he went into private catering around Cape Town and when he was approached in 2018 to manage the now ANEW Resort Hunters Rest in Rustenburg, he jumped at the chance to get back in the hotel business. 

Buitendag has an immense passion for events and has a wealth of experience in this field as well as food and beverage. “I am acutely aware that our industry has changed significantly over the last few years. Customers have come to expect more from us, and so they should when they spend their hard-earned money. They also are looking to buy an experience when travelling for leisure while more practical needs must be addressed for business travel. I have always placed the guest at the centre of what we do – this is what we are there for.”
