Hideaways has expanded its portfolio in Zimbabwe with four new luxury lodges, as well as a new houseboat experience. The additions bring Hideaways’ Southern African portfolio to seven properties in Zimbabwe and two in Botswana.
Masumu River Lodge in Binga has nine en-suite rooms plus two family rooms, each with its own private veranda. Facilities include a bar, pool and lounge, with WiFi available, as well as indoor and outdoor dining areas.
The lodge is built into the side of a hill and boasts views over Lake Kariba. Activities include fishing on the lake, visits to the nearby Batonga village and museum, and sunset cruises. The lodge is a 15-minute drive from Binga Airstrip, accessible by charter aircraft.
Located on Lake Kariba, the Sovereign Houseboat sets sail from Masumu River Lodge and offers six double and four twin en-suite cabins. All are air-conditioned. The boat also has a swimming pool, sundeck, and dining area.
Travellers will enjoy game viewing from the water as the boat passes national parks and islands. Activities include fishing, bush walks, beach barbecues and exploring waterways and islands by tender boat.
Shashani Lodge, Matobo Hills, is built on a granite hill in the Unesco World Heritage Site of Matobo National Park. Each en-suite bedroom room has its own private patio, and facilities include a lounge, bar, dining area, fireplace, and swimming pool.
The park has some of the oldest cave paintings in the world and activities include a tour of Bulawayo, game drives, rock painting tours and rhino tracking. Shashani is an hour-and-a-half’s drive from Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo International Airport in Bulawayo.
Mana Pools Safari Lodge is a 45-minute drive from Mana West Airport. The lodge is close to Mana Pools National Park’s eastern boundary, with views of the Zambezi River. Game drives, game walks, a sundowner cruise, canoeing, and fishing are available.
The lodge has 12 wood and thatch chalets, built to blend into their surroundings, each with two double beds and a veranda. There is a dining area, lounge, outdoor deck, WiFi, and a swimming pool. The camp is powered by solar energy.
Kariba Safari Lodge, situated on a mountainside overlooking Lake Kariba, is surrounded by 13.4ha of forest. There are nine open-fronted lodges and eight suites, and facilities include game drives, hikes, a catamaran experience, and a half-day tour of Kariba town. The lodge can be reached via air charter to Kariba Airport from Harare, Mana Pools or Hwange.
Facilities at the lodge include a mini bar, WiFi, a swimming pool, dining area, and built-in swimming cage for the nearby lake.
