A new road has been opened in popular tourist destination, Nkhata Bay, Malawi. The road has been named after President Arthur Peter Mutharika and will link Mzuzu to Nkhata Bay, ending at the Nkhata Bay Jetty on Lake Malawi.
The ceremony was held on Tuesday, July 10, and attended by President Mutharika. The road cost an estimated K16.7 billion (€19.5m) and is part of the Mtwara Development Corridor which links Malawi and Zambia to Mtwara Port in Tanzania.
The road is expected to make travelling between Nkhata Bay and Mzuzu Town easier.
Speaking last week on his arrival in the region, Mutharika pledged to continue to drive development in the northern parts of the country, adding that the first steps had been taking on construction of the Bolero-Chitipa road which is expected to head through the Nyika National Park.
