Sibusiso Bukhosini has been appointed CEO of iSimangaliso Wetland Park Authority in KwaZulu Natal. He is committed to steering the World Heritage Site to even greater heights as Africa’s leading conservation and development organisation.
Bukhosini took up the reins in September, following his role as Municipal Manager at uMkhanyakude District Municipality and Umhlabuyalingana Local Municipality prior to that.
During his tenure as Municipal Manager at Umhlabuyalingana he obtained three clean audits, steering it from a disclaimer and insolvency status into a liquid and respected municipality.
With a Master’s Degree in Environment and Development: Protected Area Management following his Bachelors and Honours degrees, his early work experience included dealing with restitution of state-managed protected areas, while with the then Land Affairs (now DRLR). Bukhosini later joined Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife for nine years in a management position before making the move to local government. He is eminently qualified to take the helm of iSimangaliso with its unique situation of balancing conservation and development in rural KZN.
Bukhosini is energetic and driven, having hit the ground running familiarising himself with the key issues facing iSimangaliso, broadly describing his strategy as follows: “The strategy is to synchronise the link between conservation, tourism and stakeholder relations. The transformation agenda seeks to be one of inclusive economic growth through expanding opportunities for all. In this instance, understanding that our role is conservation, the focus will be to ensure that conservation is not compromised at the expense of development, but it must serve as a catalyst through being able to provide sustainable products for tourism and ecotourism. We will strive to work with other stakeholders and role players in encouraging development in the buffer and terrestrial part of the park.”
Comair CEO, Erik Venter announced the appointment of Wrenelle Stander as Executive in charge of Comair’s airlines division on September 26.
From the beginning of November Stander will lead Comair’s two airline brands, kulula.com and British Airways, both operated by Comair regionally as part of a licence agreement.
Kulula holidays has expanded its groups and incentives offerings, with its New Hire, Shinaaz Flusk.
Flusk joins the group with a wealth of groups experience, and will be expanding the groups and incentives division to include all kulula holidays’ destinations, leveraging well-priced airfares in South Africa, Mauritius and Victoria Falls, as well as for the Far East and Maldives, covering sports, family holidays, school trips, conferences or work trips.
The Karoo Art Hotel in Barrydale, South Africa, announced the re-appointment of Alicia Giliomee as GM and Executive Chef from mid September.
Like the hotel, Giliomee is a member of Chaîne des Rộtisseurs, the international gastronomical guild. She will continue to build the hotel’s reputation for exceptional cuisine and camaraderie of the table.
Giliomee has worked as Executive Chef at various five-star fine-dining hotels/lodges and restaurants. She has sound experience in the creation and implementation of new menus, banqueting, recruitment, staff training and skills development. She lectured widely in her field of expertise and is a natural tutor.
Dedan Ochele has been appointed GM of Lemala’s Wildwaters Lodge in Uganda, and Nathan Thomas has been appointed Lemala Executive Chef.
Kafunta Safaris in South Luangwa, Zambia, has appointed Theuns Kruger as Operations Manager, taking over from Rob Beadel, whose wife recently gave birth to their son in France.
