The Babanango Game Reserve in KwaZulu-Natal has welcomed another landmark chapter in its rewilding story, with the lions that were reintroduced into the reserve giving birth to their first cubs.
Situated in Zululand, Babanango is home to one of South Africa's largest private rewilding projects. The 20 000-hectare reserve has seen 2500 large mammals reintroduced since 2018, including all of the members of the Big Five.
In 2023, lions were introduced to the reserve, and one of the lionesses recently gave birth to three cubs.
