White-water rafting activities on the Zambezi River at the Victoria Falls have had to be moved further downstream, from Rapids 1-11 to the higher water zone, Rapids 11-24.
Rafting between rapids rated 1-11 during high-water season poses great danger, as there will be increasing currents in the upper gorges, according to Rafting Association of Zimbabwe (RAZ).
“High-water season on the Zambezi River opened as water levels around the Victoria Falls continue to rise. This means that the river is full enough for action-packed white-water rafting,” said an RAZ spokesperson.
The water level of the Zambezi is normally at its peak between March and August, owing to rainfall on the upper stretches of the river.
