SA Tourism continues to bolster its presence in the Indian market, having recently concluded its second in-person Corporate MICE programme in Mumbai.
As the financial capital of India, Mumbai is an integral part of SA Tourism’s plans to increase inbound MICE travel, particularly considering the Asian country’s status as one of South Africa’s top emerging markets. Overall, the tourism board is aiming for a 35% increase in MICE travellers from Indian metros and tier-two markets in 2023.
The Corporate MICE programme in India kicked off in Delhi in February, followed by Mumbai on March 16 and Pune on March 17, with the next event scheduled for Bangalore on March 24.
Led by Neliswa Nkani, SA Tourism Hub Head for Middle East, India and South-East Asia, the programme includes engagement sessions with corporate travel purchasers, outlining opportunities and highlighting the potential of South Africa as a MICE destination.
Discussions covered subjects ranging from the USPs of South Africa for MICE groups, the support offered by SA Tourism and the activities that can be explored by MICE travellers.
“Corporate India’s increasing interest in hosting global meetings, key conventions and important exhibitions in South Africa is a testament to the world-class business facilities the country has to offer,” said Nkani.
“The Rainbow Nation has evolved as a destination with a winning combination for India’s business and MICE travellers owing to the affordability and engagement opportunities available. It is heartening to see more and more corporate houses choosing South Africa,” Nkani added.
The Indian market has expanded significantly post-COVID, becoming South Africa’s sixth-largest international source market. SA Tourism has identified that over a quarter of trips from India to South Africa are motivated by MICE.
