Seychelles has officially launched the Seychelles Challenge – a seven-day, six-night sailing event set to take place from July 20-27. Designed to establish the archipelago as a leading sailing destination, the regatta will bring together experienced sailors, enthusiasts and visitors for a multi-island maritime competition.
The Seychelles Challenge is being organised by WorldSport and Tourism Seychelles with support from several local stakeholders. The regatta, featuring daily sailing challenges across Seychelles islands, will allow participants to compete in their own vessels or chartered catamarans through event partner Sunsail.
Hylton Hale, Race Director and Co-Founder of Global Events, highlighted Seychelles’ favourable sailing conditions, citing steady trade winds, cyclone-free waters and lack of major international regattas in the Indian Ocean as key advantages. The event offers an alternative to the Mediterranean and Caribbean sailing circuits and aims to attract professional teams and amateur sailors.
Beyond the competition, the Seychelles Challenge will incorporate cultural and leisure activities, including daily prize-giving ceremonies and formal gatherings in scenic island locations.
