Little Kulala, Wilderness Safaris’ camp in Sossusvlei, has closed for remodelling. Scheduled to reopen in June, the camp will still have its much-loved look and feel, with greater emphasis placed on in- and out-of-camp activities.
Situated in Namibia’s Kulala Wilderness Reserve, Little Kulala has direct access to Sossusvlei’s red dunes. New activities will celebrate the splendour and solitude of this section of the Namib Desert. Alexandra Margull, Wilderness Safaris Namibia md, says: “Our revamp will focus on enhancing camp features in a way that reinterprets the desert experience and tells the remarkable story of a desert habitat restored.”
Changes will make it easier for guests to move between rooms and the camp’s main area. These include new flooring, the addition of a photo hub in the upstairs library space, a new deck in the main area and better airflow, a spacious deck and elevated walkways between the 11 kulalas, or rooms. Each room will also offer a rooftop stargazing experience.
The new signature sleep-out experience on the bottom deck of each ‘kulala’ will allow guests to access their rooms during the night if desired. New activities will include sunrise breakfasts or brunches at outdoor locations, gin stops and self-guided walking trails. There will be a fire pit in front of the camp, and the camp’s sunken wine cellar will be available for wine tastings and private dining.
