Plans for Tanzania’s Dodoma Wine Festival are under way. The festival will be held in November and will showcase the Dodoma region’s grape industry and other attractions.
Speaking at a press conference to inaugurate the planning committee, Dodoma Regional Commissioner, Dr Binilith Mahenge told reporters that the event would bring together the grape farming and wine industry as well as other members of the tourism industry in the region in one big event. “We have decided to organise this event, which is the first of its kind in Dodoma, in order to market the prestigious attractions Dodoma has been endowed with.”
Mahenge said the region offered tourists heritage and nature at sites like the Kondoa Irangi rock paintings and Swaga Swaga Game Reserve.
The name for the festival, said Mahenge, came from the fact that Dodoma was the centre of Tanzania’s grape growing industry, adding that foreign visitors to the region were often impressed by the high quality of wine from the area.
